Verizon - NFL Trivia Live

Before live streaming was mainstream and way before the rise of live social game shows like HQ, we came up with an idea that positioned Verizon as a forward thinking brand connected to NFL fans in a ground breaking way. The idea? What if Verizon gave away Super Bowl tickets for eight weeks in a row, and the only way to win them was to be knowledgable about the NFL. That’s when NFL Trivia Live was born.

We got Jay Glazer, a well-respected NFL insider, to host a live show each week from a production stage in Los Angeles. We invited NFL fans to tune in for a live trivia show where if they were quick enough, they could actually when tickets to Super Bowl XLVI. During the live broadcast, Glazer would bring his knowledge of the NFL to full form and ask several questions to the live audience tuning in with the first person answering becoming the winner.

In order to naturally weave in Verizon product features, we added moments during the show when Jay Glazer would walk “backstage" for a break. That’s when we would cut to a pre-recorded “commercial” that was filmed with Drew Brees, Clay Matthews and Mark Sanchez — all Verizon-sponsored NFL players. These spots were shot weeks in advance and were scripted to appear as if Jay Glazer was simply walking backstage and bumping into different players and actors. This proved to be a seamless way to focus on Verizon messaging in an entertaining way using the players that we had.
